Floristic diversity in the Kallar Corridor Western Ghats, Coimbatore

Abstract
This study was conducted in the Kallar Corridor at Western Ghats, Coimbatore. A total of 332 species belonging to 74 families of plant species were recorded. This is an initial attempt to collect the plant species from the study area and it is preliminary for asses the vegetation status. Plant species were collected and identified in the various seasons. Among the plant species a total of 66 families belonging to 281 species were dicotyledons and 8 families belonging to 51 species were monocotyledons. Poaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Fabaceae were found to be the major plant families in the Kallar Corridor. Many endemic and threatened plant species also found in the study area such as Ligustrum perrottetii, Bridelia crenulata, Pterocarpus marsupium, Argyreia cuneata and Santalum album.
